BASEMENT CREATIVE LAB

The Basement Creative Lab is Provo City Library's audiovisual production space. 

GETTING STARTED

Maybe you're making a podcast or recording an audiobook; maybe you're hoping to be the next YouTube sensation. If you're interested in using the Basement Creative Lab for your next project, here's what you need to know. 

  • Users must have a Provo City Library card in good standing.
  • All users must attend the "Intro to Studio Production" class prior to making their first reservation. 
  • Users must complete and sign a Basement Creative Lab User Agreement.

REQUESTING STUDIO TIME

To request studio time, complete the following steps: 

  • Go to our room reservations page and select "Media Stations" in the drop-down menu. 
  • Choose the date for your requested reservation from the calendar on the left.
  • Select a time range under the heading Basement Creative Lab.
  • Select which lab equipment/resources you want to use.
  • Hit the "Reserve Now" button and follow the steps to provide your contact and other relevant information.
  • A lab technician will contact you about your request. 
  • All requests must be made at least seven days in advance.
  • Individual users or user groups are entitled to 8 hours of studio time per month. This could be one eight-hour session or multiple shorter sessions. 

USING AN EDITING STATION

Editing stations are equipped with Adobe Creative Cloud, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro X, and more specialized programs. 

Media stations are located in the first floor of the Rogers Wing alongside our public computers. 

To reserve an editing station, complete the following steps:

  • Go to our room reservations page and select "Media Stations" in the drop-down menu. 
  • Choose the date for your requested reservation from the calendar on the left.
  • Select a time range under one of the headings for "Multimedia Editing Station."
  • Individual users or user groups are entitled to 4 hours of reserved time per day.
  • If you are more than 15 minutes late your reservation may be canceled.

CHECKING OUT EQUIPMENT

The Basement Creative Lab includes a small collection of circulating equipment to record projects outside of the library. 

  • Users must have a Provo City Library card in good standing.
  • Complete the necessary online tutorials for each piece of equipment you'd like to check out.
  • Complete and sign a Basement Creative Lab User Agreement. 
  • Fill out an equipment request form; a lab technician will contact you about your request.
  • All requests must be made at least seven days in advance. 
  • Users may only have one active request at any given time. 
  • All circulating equipment checks out for one week; late fees are $25 per day.

GOPRO KIT

This kit includes a GoPro Hero 5 Black, a video microphone, small tripod, and all the necessary cables and adapters to get you going.

This kit includes a Zoom H4N recorder, one microphone and windscreen, headphones, and all the necessary cables and adapters to get you going.

For the budding photographer, this kit includes a Canon Rebel T6, two zoom lenses, and a variety of batteries, cables, and adapters.

EQUIPMENT REQUEST FORM

Use the following form to request a GoPro camera kit or a Zoom H4N Audio Recorder Kit. Users must complete the GoPro Camera Basics and GoPro Camera Accessories tutorials or the Zoom H4N tutorial online before coming in to check out a kit. Bring your certificates of completion with you to your first check-out appointment.

All requests are subject to approval.

There is no guarantee the equipment will be available until you have received a confirmation e-mail from the scheduling technician (not the automated e-mail you will receive immediately after submitting this form).

Failure to complete the required tutorials will cause you to forfeit your reservation.

Please allow up to 3 business days to receive your confirmation.
